Barca does not want Messi to return
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca has absolutely no idea about recruiting former captain Lionel Messi in the winter transfer window (January 2024).
This source emphasized that even if Messi was ready for that, after Inter Miami did not have a ticket to play-off in MLS, Barca also refused.
The reason is still said to be financial. With a tight budget, Barca does not want to make their job more difficult, by adding the salary of the great number 10, to the budget, even if Messi accepts a deep reduction in his income.
Yesterday, Sport newspaper caused a stir when it reported that President Joan Laporta was discussing with Barca leaders about contacting Inter Miami to ask to borrow Messi.
Due to missing out on the MLS play-off round, Messi and Beckham's Inter Miami will not play until early March 2024. In this case, if he wants to maintain his form, the Argentine superstar may need a 'temporary' place to play football.
Messi left Barca in an unexpected way and joined PSG in the summer of 2021 after returning from vacation and being told by Laporta that the club did not renew his contract due to financial problems.
After 2 not really happy years in Paris, number 10 went to the US to play for Inter Miami in July and created a football fever in the United States.
