Mbappe confirmed to leave PSG at the end of this season

Striker Kylian Mbappe told President Nasser Al Khelaifi that he will leave PSG after his contract expires in June 2024.

The former PSG star called on Paris fans to attack Messi

A series of transfer news experts reported the news, including David Orstein from Athletic. The terms of the contract termination have not yet been completely signed, but PSG is expected to announce information in the next few months. Khelaifi also accepted to lose Mbappe, in return they saved about 215 million USD per year to invest in youth training.

Mbappe's contract will expire after June 30, 2024, with the option to extend for another year. However, Mbappe did not choose this option, deciding to leave at the end of the season for free. PSG will not receive a transfer fee when the 26-year-old striker leaves, but they will save the $215 million per year salary they are paying to the French football star.

Mbappe has not yet chosen a new destination, but he is leaning towards the option of landing at Real Madrid. However, the remuneration offered by the Spanish club still did not satisfy him, causing negotiations to stall. Mbappe has the right to negotiate with any team from January 2024, because he only has six months or less of his contract left with PSG.

Mbappe has long expressed his dream of joining Real Madrid, but PSG wants to keep him there every season. There was a time when president Florentino Perez was willing to pay PSG about 200 million USD to bring Mbappe to Real, when his contract had only one year left with PSG. However, Al Khelaifi insisted on not letting this star leave, even convincing him to extend his contract in the summer of 2022.

Perez has kept in touch with Mbappe over the years, and has not given up the idea of bringing him to the Bernabeu. The French captain has recently mainly played in the central striker position, which Real lacks, after Karim Benzema left.

Besides Real, not many European clubs have enough financial resources to pay Mbappe's salary. In the summer of 2023, Al Hilal wanted to pay 320 million USD to recruit Mbappe from PSG, but he refused to go to the Saudi Pro League.

The midfielder born in 1998 is considered the top star in the soccer world, post-Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He grew up in Monaco's training center, before joining PSG in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee of 194 million USD, becoming the second most expensive contract in history, after the deal of Neymar from Barca also to PSG. Mbappe has scored 243 goals in 290 matches for PSG. Mbappe played brilliantly at the 2022 World Cup, winning the top scorer award with eight goals, including a hat-trick in the final, even though France lost to Argentina on penalties.
