Top 10 clubs that spend the most money on shopping in the 21st century: MU, Man City are not number 1
The transfer market has witnessed significant changes over the past decade, with increasingly more blockbuster deals exceeding 100 million Euros. Transfermarkt recently compiled a list of the clubs that have spent the most in the 21st century, with data up to December 31, 2023.
Top 10 outstanding transfers in Premier League history
10. Inter Milan (€1.82 billion)
The current runners-up of the 2022/23 Champions League rank 10th, having spent a considerable amount in the transfer market. Notable expensive signings for Inter Milan in the 21st century include Romelu Lukaku (€74 million) and Benjamin Pavard (€33 million).
9. Tottenham Hotspurs (€1.83 billion)
Despite significant spending, Tottenham's trophy cabinet remains empty. The club's most expensive deals include Tanguy Ndombele (€60 million), Richarlison (€58 million), Cristian Romero (€50 million), Davinson Sanchez (€42 million), and Moussa Sissoko (€35 million).
8. Liverpool (€1.931 billion)
While Jurgen Klopp has mentioned the lack of funds for desired signings, Liverpool has been quite active in the transfer market. Recent seasons saw the Reds securing high-profile players like Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai.
7. PSG (€2.132 billion)
Surprisingly, the wealthy French club ranks 7th in this list. PSG made world-shaking deals, such as Neymar Jr from Barcelona for €222 million and Kylian Mbappe from AS Monaco for €180 million.

Real Madrid, known as "Los Blancos," is among the few clubs that spend significantly and achieve immense success. Notable signings include Gareth Bale for €101 million.

In contrast to rivals Real Madrid, Barcelona's errors in player acquisitions have contributed to the club's current economic difficulties.
4. Juventus (€2.382 billion)
Juventus, once known for shrewd and even free transfers, has also made bold and expensive signings. Cristiano Ronaldo, at €117 million, is the most expensive, followed by Higuain at €90 million, but neither of these mega-deals brought the expected success.
3. Man Utd (€2.465 billion)
In the 21st century, Manchester United is one of the most aggressive spenders in the transfer market. Key signings from the post-'Sir Alex' era include Pogba (€105 million), Antony (€95 million), Harry Maguire (€87 million), Jadon Sancho (€85 million), and more, with varying degrees of success.
2. Man City (€2.739 billion)
With €2.739 billion, Manchester City dominates European football. Pep Guardiola's team has spent heavily on player acquisitions and achieved significant success, including a treble in the latest season.
1. Chelsea (€3.474 billion)
