Negotiations broke down, Qatar billionaire withdrew from the MU purchase deal
After nearly 9 months of negotiations, Qatar Bank, headed by billionaire Sheikh Jassim, withdrew its offer to buy MU for 5 billion pounds. They also informed the Glazers that they were no longer interested in any agreement.
This has left Sir Jim Ratcliffe - who is proposing to buy 25% of the club's shares - the only remaining option on the negotiating table. Britain's richest tycoon is still trying to carry out the deal step by step and the latest proposal allows the Glazer family to continue controlling the team.
The Qatari side submitted six bids over nearly a year, with further negotiations recently but ultimately, all were rejected.
Sheikh Jassim angrily told the Glazer family and Raine bank that the valuation of MU at 6 billion pounds was unreasonable, in the context of the club's capitalization value on the stock exchange being only 2.7 billion pounds.
The owner of the Qatari bank wants to acquire 100% of the shares paid in cash and will erase all of the current debt of the Manchester football team.
Sheikh Jassim also pledged to pour another 1.4 billion pounds to rebuild Old Trafford, remodel the Carrington training center and purchase players.
However, after the Glazer family's tough move, the Qatari billionaire announced he would terminate the agreement and not return to the negotiating table.
